Douglas Francis Chase, age 89, of Fonda, Iowa died June 24, 2025, at Park View Care Center in Sac City, Iowa.
Graveside services will take place Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 3:00pm at the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa. Celebration of Life will follow at the Fonda Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Doug's name to a local not-for-profit of your choice. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements.
Douglas was born December 15, 1935, to LaVerne and Anna (Zembsch) Chase. He attended school in Alta, Iowa, graduating from Alta High School in 1953.
On November 23, 1957, Douglas was united in marriage to Veronica (Prendergast) Chase at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. To this union, eight children were born: Julie, Mary, Margaret, Edward, Douglas, Daniel, Martin, and Catherine.
On July 19, 1958, Douglas enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of E-5 and was a member of the missile man crew for Ajax and Hercules surface to air defense program.
Douglas enjoyed watching any type of car racing. He loved sports, especially Green Bay Packers football and Indiana Fever basketball. You could find him participating in taco night and power hours at the Fonda Golf Course. Douglas will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Douglas is survived by his children: Julie (Pat) Harrington of Pomeroy, IA; Mary (Rick) Krull Fonda, IA; Margaret Tewes Alta, IA; Edward (Rachel) Chase Carroll, IA; Douglas (Mary) Chase Omaha, NE; Martin (Tawnya) Chase Fonda, IA; Catherine (Tony) Strauss Early, IA; brother: Fr. Raymond Chase, Cockeysville, MD; sister-in-law: Margaret (Anderson) Chase, Carroll, IA; grandchildren: Nicholas Weinzetl, Frances (Bill) Mohrhauser, Anna Miller (Brad Wilson), Jacob Harrington, Tony (Brandi) Harrington, Aaron Gehrig, Emily (Brad) Williams, Drew (Lance) Bellinghausen, Shannon (Jacob) Hess, Sara Tewes (Chris Joines), Ariel Hale, Jonathan Chase, Elizabeth Chase, Timothy Chase, Michael Chase, Anthony John (Desi) Chase, Chelsea (Jordan) Brown, Mitchell Strauss; 23 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Veronica Chase; parents: LaVerne and Anna Chase; son: Daniel Chase; grandson: Carson Chase; brothers: Clair (Twyla) Chase, James (Janis) Chase, Thomas Chase; and sisters: Dorothy (Gene) Kilbride and Juanita Chase.
