With a profound sense of sorrow, we announce the passing of Douglas Keith Stelling, a loving husband, devoted father, and beloved son, who departed this world on November 21, 2024, at the age of 53. Born in Seattle, WA on January 23, 1971, to Rita Angstrom, Douglas was then adopted by Shara and Otis Stelling, who lovingly raised him. Douglas was a beacon of strength, resilience, and love in the lives of his family and friends. As Aldous Huxley once said, "The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age," and that's precisely how Douglas lived his life - with a childlike enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy.
Growing up he spent most of his summers in Michigan with his grandparents and various loved ones. Doug always looked forward to his summertime travels as that meant days by the lake, shooting guns, and enjoying the company of family.
In 2016, Douglas was fortunate to cross paths with Amy, who would become the love of his life. Their bond was immediate and deep, culminating in a beautiful wedding on August 13, 2022. Together, they nurtured their children, Madison McLaughlin and Avery Stelling, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth, always being mindful to keep God at the helm.
Douglas had a varied professional life, serving as a tribal police officer, prison guard, truck driver, and a security officer. He brought diligence and dedication to every role, but his greatest honor was serving our nation.
Douglas was a man with a love for nature that was second to none. Whether hunting, fishing, target practicing, or simply driving along logging roads, the woods were his sanctuary and always brought him peace. As John Muir once wrote, "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks," and this quote personifies Douglas' relationship with nature. Along with his wife Amy, Douglas focused on creating a life that was rich in experiences and memories. Whether camping in their motorhome or embarking on road trips, Douglas and his family found joy in every moment they shared.
Douglas leaves behind his mother Shara Stelling of Olympia, WA, his father Otis Stelling of Olympia, WA, his wife Amy Stelling, their children Madison and Avery of Lacey, WA, his half-sisters Dorthy Seagrave of Kennewick, WA, Connie Slack of Raymore, Missouri, Dayna Stelling of Olympia, WA, and his half-brother James Moorby of Spokane, WA. He is preceded in death by his birth mother, Rita Angstrom.
Douglas' life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and a spirit for adventure. His memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew him. Those who wish to honor Douglas' life are encouraged to share their memories, stories, and photos on his memorial page. His life was a beautiful journey, and we invite you to help us celebrate his legacy by sharing your own experiences with Douglas.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to help his family in their time of need.
