Dwight Boysen Obituary

Dwight Lee Boysen was born March, 9th, 1946 in Atlantic, Iowa, to the parents of Clifford H. Boysen (died October 21, 1994) and Velma (Babbitt) Boysen (died July 14th, 2014). He was baptized and confirmed at Monroe Chapel Global Methodist Church. In 1964 he graduated from Elk Horn High School in Elk Horn, Iowa. He married Raedell Ann Nelson on June 4th, 1965 and together they had 3 children; Lesley Ann (b. 1965), Douglas Ross (b. 1971) and Jennifer Rae (b. 1976). In 1971 he graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He helped build a successful veterinary clinic in Audubon Iowa. Dwight and Raedell divorced in 1981. On May 7th,1988, he married Teresa Ann (Thygesen) Boysen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they had Zachary Lee (b. 1990). He and Teresa lived in Howells, Nebraska where he had his own veterinary practice until 1989 when they sold the business. Following this, Dwight worked as a distributor representative selling veterinary medical supplies for several different companies until he retired on May 1, 2015. During this time he was an active member of several veterinary medicine supply associations. In 2004 he was given the honor of NVMA commercial representative of the year. In 2007 he was the top sales performer of the year for PVPL. He was interviewed for an article published in Veterinary Advantage Magazine depicting him as a unique and successful distributor representative. In 2009, Dwight, Teresa, and Zac moved to Custer, South Dakota. Teresa died of cancer on April, 4th, 2018. Dwight was a loyal and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a unique individual who loved cowboy life. He had a real love for all animals that was represented in his lifestyle. He was an avid sportsman and loved the great outdoors on many levels. He was a hard worker, both on and off the job, and took pride in his acreage. In his final year of life, he went on two guided quail hunts in Arizona and Kansas, took multiple fishing trips with friends in Missouri, and went on a boar hunt in Texas with his son, Zac. He also helped out a few local ranches by rounding up cattle and repairing fence. He was well loved by friends and family, and would always go out of his way to help others. He was a very active member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Custer, South Dakota and was re-baptized there in 2024. Dwight loved the beauty of the Black Hills his entire adult life and lived there until he died on June 29th, 2025. He is survived by: Brother Byron (Diana) Boysen, sister Glenda (Robert) Heyderhoff, and brother Lonnie Boysen; daughter Lesley and husband Todd Monson and their three children, Gavin, Madeline, and Tanner; son Doug and Kerry Boysen and their two children, Clare and Benjamin; daughter Jennifer Boysen; and son Zac and Heather Boysen and their two children, Bailey and Tate; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on July 6th, from 5-7 pm, at Pauley Jones Funeral home in Harlan, IA. There will be a memorial service on July 7th at 10 am at the Global Methodist Church in Harlan, Iowa, followed by a luncheon. The burial will succeed at the Monroe Chapel Global Methodist Church.
