Dylia Garcia, a beacon of joy and wisdom, left our world on July 2, 2025, at the age of 90, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on May 2, 1935, in Guayama, Puerto Rico, Dylia's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the art of seamstressing, a skill she honed and cherished for over seven decades. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of strength and generosity in the hearts of her family and everyone who knew her.
Dylia's journey was marked by her unwavering faith as a Christian, which guided her through life's ebbs and flows. Her daughters, Diana Mauras, Mildred Rivera, and Cynthia Rivera, stood as testament to her nurturing spirit and unshakable resolve. The light of her life shone brightly in her grandchildren, Kristal, Ashley, Clarissa, and Louis Rivera IV, who were the recipients of her boundless love and ageless wisdom. Her great-grandchildren, Jesiah Candelaria, Jayson Rivera, Kali Jae Rivera, Kaysen Rivera, and Lincoln Avery Martinez, were her pride and joy, each of them carrying a spark of Dylia's vivacious spirit.
Dylia's sons-in-law, Rick Stroman, Louis Rivera Jr., and Louis Rivera III, found in her not just a mother-in-law but a confidante and a friend. Her commitment to family was paralleled only by her dedication to her craft. As a seamstress, Dylia didn't just alter fabrics; she altered lives, infusing each thread with her care and attention to detail.
Her interests extended beyond the sewing table; Dylia was an avid dancer, her feet tapping rhythms that could light up any room. Her humor was infectious, her advice sought after, and her generosity knew no bounds. Dylia was the embodiment of the saying, "A life lived for others is a life worthwhile," leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege to cross her path.
In the spirit of Dylia's own approach to life, let us remember the words of Helen Keller: "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." As we celebrate Dylia's life, let us carry forward her legacy by finding greatness in the small acts of kindness we extend to one another.
Dylia Garcia's story does not end here. It continues in the stitches of time she has left with us, in the laughter of her descendants, and in the wisdom that resonates in her absence. Her life was a dance of resilience and grace, and though her physical presence has left us, her spirit remains an inspiration, urging us all to live with a heart full of love and hands ready to serve. Dylia, your melody will forever dance in the fabric of our lives.
A private service will be held by the family.
