Walter Clarence Gray, 79, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at his home.
Walter will be laid to rest at a later date in Mississippi.
Walter was born on December 26, 1945, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to the late Walter and Janie Gray. He served his country honorably for 24 years in the United States Navy. His time in service took him around the world, and it was while stationed in Rota, Spain that he met the love of his life, Carole. The 27th of this month would have marked 39 beautiful years together.
Walter felt most at peace on the water or the open road, he loved sailing, motorcycles, and traveling in his RV. His loyal dogs were never far behind, especially his beloved Gator, his constant companion and sidekick. Walter was a lifetime member of the Newport VFW Post 8486, a proud member of the Moose Lodge, and a disabled veteran who showed resilience and strength throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carole Gray of the home; daughter, Victoria Louise Gray of Jarvisburg, North Carolina; son, Jason Leo Gray (Katie) of Mobile, Alabama; brother, William “Pat” Gray (Gayle) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gray.
