A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of faith...
Earl Vernon Edwards I, 88, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. Born on February 28, 1937, in Palmetto, Louisiana, he was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Cora Edwards.
Earl graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954, where he excelled as a football player. In 1956, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, dedicating four honorable years to military service. He later pursued his education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning certification as a police officer.
In 1961, Earl married the love of his life, Delores Edwards, and together they raised four children, building a home founded on love, faith, and resilience. He served with distinction as a police officer-and later a detective-for the City of Port Arthur over a ten-year career. He then transitioned into the energy industry, working for Gulf Oil and Chevron Refinery until retiring after 23 years of committed service.
After retirement, Earl and Delores moved to Arlington to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He later worked with dedication at USMD Hospital until his health declined. Earl was an avid fisherman, and Earl was known for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering love for family. He was a playful grandfather, he found joy in life's simple, meaningful moments.
A faithful member of Highland Baptist Church-now Resurrection Church-he worshipped under the leadership of Reverend Norman and found deep joy in his church family.
Earl lived a life of love, strength, and service. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him. Though he has departed this earthly life, his legacy will forever remain in the lives he so deeply influenced.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 64 years, Delores Edwards; his children: Michelle Crawford (Bodrick), Charletta Edwards, Earl Edwards II, and Vernetta Willis (Tony); his sisters: Glenda Edwards, Linda Benson, and Odessa LaCour; grandchildren: Ronald Antoine (Marquita), Jason Jacobs (Crissie), Ryan Antoine (Lauren), Madison Spears (Tony), Terrance Edwards (Danielle), and Victoria Willis; along with 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and lifelong friends.
