Edna Matson passed away on July 2, 2025, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
Edna Frances Mieloszyk Matson was born May 4, 1928, at Rusk Farm to George and Stella (Tomaszewski) Mieloszyk. She graduated from Chetek High School in May 1947 and married Wayne Matson on October 18, 1947. They lived in Chetek, Chippewa Falls, Prentice, Rice Lake, and again Chetek.
Edna was mother to 4 children. When she worked out of the home on occasion, she worked as a waitress at King Edward Inn-Rice Lake, American Legion in Chetek, and Sportsman’s Supper Club-Chetek. She also worked at Wright Products-Rice Lake, at Cotton Products-Cameron, and for many years as the cook at Roselawn Elementary School in Chetek. She enjoyed watching the kids grow from kindergarten to 5th grade.
Edna was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 50 years. Every Veterans Day Dinner, she was there to cook turkey in the early morning hours. Every other meal, she was there to cook, clean, wash dishes, serve; whatever was needed.
She was also an active member of the St Boniface Catholic women’s group, serving as needed.
She is survived by 3 of her 4 children: Anne Watton, Chetek; Karen, Chetek; Bob (Loretta) La Crosse, Bill, Harding, IL. Her grandchildren also survive her: Joel (Jill) and Mike (Darja) Watton; Andy (Stephanie) Wicherski and Allison (Brian) Esberner; Adam (Rebecca) Polanowski; Philip, Luke (Mindy), and Matthew (Casey) Matson. Her great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Caleb Watton, Maksim, Jaksen, Aleks Watton, Kassie (Riley) Fregien, Kori Perron, Donovan and Drake Polanowski, Devon and Skylar Matson, Jason Matson. And her great-great-grandchildren: Kloe and Oliver Matson. She has a sister, Lucy Hurtis of Chetek, and sister-in-law Jeannine Miller of Lombard, Illinois, sister-in-law: Linda Magadance, Eau Claire, and brother-in-law: Jim Matson, Kalispel, MT, plus many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, etc.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne (Feb 28, 2010), her son Al Matson (Mar 21, 2025), her parents George and Stella Mieloszyk, her siblings: Florence, Ed, Ted, Rose, Betty, Gene, and some nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will take place on July 19th with visitation from 9-11 at the church, with Mass at 11 am at St Boniface Catholic Church in Chetek. There will be a private interment for the family.
The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
