Edward Koeller Obituary
On July 10, 2025, at 91 years young, Edward Beauchamp Koeller left this earth to cause some mischief in heaven. He joins his wife, Vivi; his parents, Virginia and Ed; his sister, Ginny; and many other family members and friends who have been waiting for him to kickstart the celebration in the next realm.
He was a loving father to Kim, Ed (Kathy), Ken, and Dave (Beth); a grandfather to 11 (plus their respective spouses); a great-grandfather to 24; a loyal friend; a trusted mentor; and a proud dog owner to so many! One of his top priorities was to support, encourage, and cheer on his family members at any and all competitions, events, and new endeavors whenever possible.
Leveraging his physics degree from Loyola University, Ed was a successful career sales engineer for the steel mills, known for his very strong work ethic and customer-first attitude. He was responsible for the design, installation, and troubleshooting of high-performance control valves and instrumentation. Ed also entertained his customers and colleagues with his own clever and unique style, creating many fun, memorable experiences.
With his quick wit, he was a jokester at home, at work, and throughout life, keeping everyone on their toes for many good laughs.
Ed had an incredible zest for life, from flying in a stunt plane in Alaska and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef to instigating infamous water fights and swimming in multiple relay team triathlons in Lake Michigan. He was also "Mr. Tripadvisor" during the annual two-week family camping vacations throughout the U.S. and Canada, finding the best advice from locals and fellow travelers alike long before Google existed.
Ed was an altar boy, golf caddy, Army Captain, Cub Master, Pinewood Derby judge, Little League and sports coach, Catholic mass usher, PADS volunteer, driving instructor, shipping guru, all-around handyman, and even Santa Claus for many years.
Even though he was born and raised in Chicago, Ed was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers. His father always cheered for the Bears, so the Packers became Ed's choice at a very early age, leading to many football game bets over the years. Packers rule!
He also loved his hobbies, from walking his dogs, swimming, sharing his Lionel train collection, and woodworking in his work area, to fishing, playing cribbage, enjoying his auto club, and mastering Wasgij puzzles from the UK. Of course, one can't forget Great Grandpa's Lego Museum!
Despite handling significant family health issues and being the "bionic guy," Ed was always ready to jump in to listen and lend a helping hand when needed. He made sure that family, friends, breakfast buddies, and even strangers felt better through conversation and acts of concern, which positively impacted so very many lives.
Ed Koeller – you are one of a kind and will be truly missed!
