On June 29, while peacefully holding his wife Tina's hand, Edward Montemagno passed away surrounded by his children, with the Red Sox game playing softly in the background.
He loved deeply, and those who were blessed to know him loved him as much in return.
Ed served as a sergeant and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he attended Northeastern University on the GI Bill. It was there during his work-study program at New England Transformer that he met the love of his life, Tina. Their first date took place at Revere Beach. Just nine months later, they began their life together as husband and wife. And they were blessed to have recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Ed and Tina raised their three children in Bedford, MA, where Ed was a devoted and supportive father and husband. He coached Little League and took pride in serving in various leadership roles with the Boy Scouts. He always led by example and taught his children with integrity, compassion, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility-lessons they carry with them to this day.
Those who knew Ed will never forget his mischievous sense of humor and playful spirit-if you caught his signature wink, you knew he was up to something.
Ed spent the majority of his professional career at Raytheon, where he worked for 26 years. During his well-earned retirement he split his time between Bonita Springs, Florida, and Merrimack, New Hampshire.
Outside of work, Ed found joy in fishing, gardening, photography, beach walks, traveling and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He also made unforgettable memories with Tina during trips to Germany, Italy, Greece and England.
And years later, the family still marvels at the fact that he not only built the family's first color television by himself, but he also built an entire in-ground pool in the backyard-working tirelessly and managing the many friends and family that came to lend a hand.
He never missed a chance to support his grandchildren, whether it was a three-hour dance recital, a football or baseball game, a school play, a skating competition, or a field hockey game. They especially looked forward to his famous pizza, a beloved family favorite using a recipe passed down from his mother.
In his later years, he cherished time with each of his grandchildren, creating lasting memories on trips to Red Sox Spring Training in Fort Myers, sunny days at the beach, and magical visits to Disney World. Baseball was a special bond he shared with his grandson Kyle. Together they visited ballparks across the country.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the loving caregivers at Bridges by EPOCH in Nashua for the care they provided Ed in the last year of his life. They also wish to thank the exceptional hospice staff, including those at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, for ensuring his final days were as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tina, and his three children and their spouses: Michael and Kristin Montemagno of Littleton, Massachusetts; Guy and Hope Montemagno of Patterson, Louisiana; and Joni Montemagno and Jeff Child of Merrimack, New Hampshire. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Kyle Montemagno (wife Kathryn), Hannah Fleming (husband Mike), Daphne and Cassie Child, and Justin Dotson - as well as his adored great-grandson, Anthony. Along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Gaetano and Rose (Sclafani) Montemagno, brothers James and Joseph, and sisters Josephine and Rosemarie.
Those who wish may make a memorial contribution in Ed's name to either The Community Hospice House in Merrimack or the
