Suffolk, VA – Edward Carl Sargent, born on September 23, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Suffolk, Virginia, at the age of 74.
Ed retired from the US Air Force as a MSgt where he served 24 years as an Air Traffic Controller and First Sergeant. He was a veteran of both the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He continued his career as a Supervisor with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
A fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ed found joy in cheering for his favorite team and sharing that with family and friends. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Sargent and Gladys Stohl Sargent; his brothers, Louis, Henry, and Butch Sargent; and his son, Randy Roderick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Pat Sargent, who drove him nuts throughout their many years together. He leaves behind three children: Richard Roderick of Connecticut, Ronald Roderick of Massachusetts, and Lisa Iorga and her husband, Nick, of Suffolk, Virginia. Ed was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and cherished his role as a great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren, with three more expected to join the family soon.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Per his wishes, he will be placed in Arlington National Cemetery. Most of all, Ed would want us to be kind to each other. If you would like to make a memorial donation, kindly consider the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or a charity of your choice. Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family. Friends and family may share online memories and condolences at www.vacremationsociety.com
Ed was a great story teller, had a dry sense of humor and loved his "Opa days". He will be remembered most for his unconditional love for his family.
