Eileen DeYoung, age 82, of Glenwood, Illinois, passed peacefully from this life in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 12, 2025, at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest.
Born August 4, 1942, in Blue Island, Illinois, Eileen was the cherished daughter of the late Stella and Walter Rokicki. She was raised in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago, where her warmth, creativity, and unmistakable spark first took root.
Eileen was the devoted wife of 61 years to Chris DeYoung, with whom she shared a long and steady partnership marked by commitment and perseverance. She was the loving mother of Michelle (Colin) Cashin and Christine (Terry) Nordstrom-Eastham; proud grandmother of Kacey (Dahmon) and Conor (Kayla) Cashin; and adoring great-grandmother of Layla and Crewe. She is also survived by her dear brother, Edwin "Sonny" Rokicki, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 siblings.
A retired beautician, Eileen had a lifelong eye for beauty-in people, in art, and in the everyday. Whether sewing, creating her own original coloring books, or styling someone's hair with flair, she brought creativity and joy to everything she touched. Her signature style and artsy spirit were unmistakable.
Never one to sit still for long, Eileen found joy in staying connected to others. After retiring from being a beautician, she worked banquets at Glenwood Oaks Restaurant, where her energy and people-loving nature shined. She also drove the Bloom Township Bus, ensuring seniors could get to the store, pick up their prescriptions, and enjoy the real highlight of the trip: a great conversation with Eileen behind the wheel.
Of all the roles Eileen played in her life, being a mother remained a constant and cherished thread. Though she often watched from a distance, her love for her daughters was deep and enduring. Michelle and Christine were always in her heart, and she took quiet pride in their lives, their families, and the women they became
Eileen had the rare gift of making everyone feel at ease and welcome. She was funny, kind, and always ready to lend a hand. Her presence was comforting, her laugh unforgettable, and her love deeply felt by those lucky enough to know her.
Some people pass through our lives and leave us changed. Eileen was one of those souls who stayed in your heart forever. Her memory will be cherished always.
