Eileen M. Sloane (née Cawley), 84, passed away peacefully at her home on June 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 7, 1940, in New York, NY, Eileen was the daughter of the late Beatrice (née Marmion) and Francis F. Cawley. She was raised in Brooklyn and later lived in Staten Island before making New Providence, NJ her home for the past 53 years.
Eileen was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing time spent with her family above all else. Her happiest moments were when the family gathered for holidays to share a wonderful meal and laughs that led all to shed tears of joy. She hosted many a sleepover at grandma's house and cousin gatherings at the New Providence Pool. She never missed a sporting event – first for her kids and then later for her grandchildren. Her encouraging words and cheers for a big win always stood out in the crowd.
Eileen also served as a role model to her family to strike the right balance between family, work, and fun. She held a number of different roles over the years, routinely making a strong impression which led to promotions and praise for the value she delivered to the organizations that were lucky enough to have her talents. She was an entrepreneur who started her own business that was eventually acquired by a larger competitor. All the while, Eileen enjoyed family dinners, attending those sporting events, and providing unending love and guidance to her family as they navigated the ups and downs of life.
Eileen and her beloved husband, George, enjoyed many an epic weekend in Atlantic City where George won a "couple hundred" and Eileen served the role as "bad penny." They also loved their trips through New England becoming "leaf people" and regulars at Saratoga Springs during horse racing season. In their later years together, Eileen and George became snowbirds who enjoyed long walks in Celebration Florida. Now, they will be reunited to dance the night away to some of their favorites, most notably Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra.
She is survived by her children, Laura Delia and her husband Anthony, Lynda Bennett, and Robert Sloane; and by her cherished grandchildren, Krista, Alexandra, Andrew, George, Julianne, Robert, Tom, Megan, Victoria, Dan, and Lauren. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Peg Cawley, Tom Bennett, Bridget Sloane, and an army of nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband, George B. Sloane and her siblings, Donald Cawley, Beatrice O'Rourke, Kenneth Cawley and Gerald Cawley and her brother in law, John O'Rourke, and sisters in law Jane and Arlene Cawley.
