Elaine Stogner Magee
April 5, 1939-June 27, 2025
Elaine Stogner Magee, 86, of Tylertown, MS, passed away on June 27, 2025, at Walthall County General Hospital. She was born on April 5, 1939, to the late Harvey and Mary Lou Stogner of the Dexter community. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, 412 Beulah Ave., Tylertown, MS 39667 with Bro. Mack McElveen officiating.
Her career was spent in bookkeeping at the Walthall County Superintendent's Office where she retired after 37 years of dedication. She then spent several years traveling to visit family and attending various quilt guild activities, often with her sister-in-law, Mary Nell Magee. She enjoyed tending to her lawn and took pride in the upkeep of her home. She was deeply content sitting outside on a pretty day visiting with friends and family.
She was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church and the Circle of Friends Sunday school class. Mrs. Elaine had a servant's heart and deeply enjoyed serving others, especially in their times of need. From phone calls, visits, meals, and handwritten cards, to her delicious pound cakes, she never hesitated to lend a hand even when her own began to falter.
Mrs. Elaine was devoted to her family and cherished time spent with them. A steadfast mother, loving grandmother, wonderful mother-in-law, caring sister, and the sweetest friend, her door was always open for a visit. Regardless of how large the family grew or the preparation involved, she loved hosting Christmas Eve in her home to witness the children's joy. Some of her most joyous moments were the years when she finally finished a handmade quilt and presented it to a particular grandchild. She carefully selected fabric and spent countless hours cutting, assembling, and stitching these gifts of love. Much like her life, Mrs. Elaine did most of her work secretly and quietly, one simple act of faith and service followed by another. Just as her name is sewn into dozens of beautiful quilts, the decades of her example and commitment are forever woven into the tapestry of her family's lives.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Harvey and Mary Lou Stogner; father and mother-in-law, Wilton and Catherine Magee; sister-in-law, Linda (Wyatt) Fortenberry; and brother-in-law, Doyle London.
Remaining to cherish Elaine's memory are her three children, Vickie (Rob) Boyd, Stayce (Paul) Fortenberry, and Kevin (Allison) Magee; seven granddaughters, Nastasha (Jason) Tullos, Brittney (Brandon) Meyers, Stephanie (John) Frederic, Hillary (Zak) Thoele, Keely (Anthony Paul) Mabile, Meagan (Matt) Pottinger, and Rachael Magee; great-grandchildren, Graycee Boyd, Cameron Boyd, Skyler Meyers, Avery Meyers, Alex Frederic, Madelyn Stephens, Myles Thoele, Israel Frederic, Aliza Frederic, Hezekiah Frederic, Ethan Meyers, Brooks Thoele, Mack Frederic, and Fischer Mabile; great-great grandchildren, Jace, Tucker, Abigail (Brent) Torres, and Piper Hilburn; brother, Winston (Sylvia) Stogner; sister, Jo Ann (Victor) Bankston; sisters-in-law, Mary Nell Magee and Peggy London; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brandon "Bubba" Meyers, John Frederic, Zak Thoele, Cameron Boyd, Michael Fortenberry, and Jason Tullos.
