Eldon Sneesby, age 94, of Howard, South Dakota, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Madison Regional Health System in Madison.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Burial will follow at Belleview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Eldon John Sneesby was born on November 24, 1930, on a farm near Carthage, South Dakota, to Phillip and Opal (Windedahl) Sneesby. He was raised in the Carthage area and graduated from Carthage High School in 1948.

In 1948, Eldon enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1951. On June 25, 1953, he married Ardis Hauge. They were married for 64 years until Ardis's passing in 2017. Together, they raised three children in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Eldon worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 33 years, hauling freight and automobiles for several companies. He retired at the age of 60, and he and Ardis returned to Howard to enjoy retirement.

Eldon had a passion for aviation and piloted small aircraft. One of his proudest accomplishments was restoring a 1930 Chevy stake-bed truck originally purchased new by his grandfather.

He is survived by his children: John Sneesby of Naperville, IL; Joni (Paul) Elliott of Oak Brook, IL; and Jean (Joe) McMaster of Roselle, IL; two grandchildren, Kristin and Mark; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Lily, and Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his beloved wife, Ardis.
