Eleanor Renner, 90, of Springfield
Funeral services are 2 PM, Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the United Church of Christ in Springfield. Burial is in the Springfield Cemetery. Visitation is at the church from 1-2 PM on Tuesday. Peters Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor was born in Menno, SD on November 4, 1934, the daughter of Julius and Ida (Heckenlaible) Zeeb. She died Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall.
Eleanor graduated from Menno High School in 1952. She worked as a secretary for the Hutchinson County Extension Agent from 1952 to 1954. From 1954 to 1956 she was employed by the Revisor of Statutes at the State Capitol in Pierre.
Eleanor married Wilbert Renner on March 2, 1956 in Miller. They then moved to Sioux City and then back to South Dakota and eventually settled in Springfield in 1959. In 1967 Eleanor was appointed as City Treasurer for the City of Springfield. In 1972 she became City Finance Officer, which position she held until her retirement in December of 1997.
Eleanor was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Springfield, Women's Fellowship, American Legion Auxiliary, Dakota Club, Quilting Club, and the Springfield Red Hat Society.
Eleanor will be remembered for her love spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids and baking cookies.
Thankful for having shared her life are her husband Wilbert of Springfield; three sons: Ron (Paula), Mike (Lori) all of Springfield and Kevin (Linda) of Omaha; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; half brother, Carl (Linda) Zeeb of Menno; and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Ella, three brothers: Wilmer, Emil and Leo Zeeb; two stepbrothers: Elmer and Walter Neth; and stepsister Deloris Quast.
