Mildred Elizabeth Baker Cheatham, age 89 of Magnolia, Arkansas, entered the presence of her Heavenly Father on July 8, 2025, and was reunited with the love of her life, Jimmy Clyde. A true southern lady, she was known best as Libby by all those who loved her.
Libby was born on October 23, 1935, to the late John Dayton and Mildred Booth Baker. Saved at the age of 12 and baptized by Brother E.B. Jones, Libby was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she preferred singing classic songs from the hymnal and sitting in the same pew with her family for decades. Libby attended the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and the Marching Razorback Band. She graduated in 1955 with a degree in English Education. A retired teacher with the Magnolia School District, for more than 25 years she influenced her students by her love of Great Expectations and by teaching the art of clear communication through proper use of a sentence diagram. While she worked full time, cared for her family, and served in the Magnolia Junior Charity League, she faithfully supported Jimmy's entrepreneurial endeavors, helping him launch JEVAC Machine Shop and Everett Plating.
Libby was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her daughter-in-law Shelley Ferguson Cheatham. She is survived by her son Craig and her daughter Valerie Cheatham, granddaughters Courtney Alspaugh of Houston, TX, Amy and husband Zach Rogers, grandson Clay and wife Mia Cheatham, great- grandsons Easton Rogers, Asher, Silas, and Jeffery Cheatham, and great- granddaughter Sadie Rogers all of Magnolia, sister-in-law Pam Ravenscraft and husband Gene of Magnolia, special friend Wanda Moreland and Tori Todd who cared for her daily, and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 5:30-7:00 PM at Lewis Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Magnolia Memorial Park with Bro. Dustin Wisely and Bro. Roger Dunlap officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wentworth and Southern Caregivers for their support over the years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests for memorials to be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 456, Magnolia, Arkansas 71754.
