Elmer Ray Cody, 85, of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born October 23, 1938 in Oak Hill, WV and had been a cherished Lorain resident, briefly moving back to West Virgina before returning to Lorain in 2012.

Elmer was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Elmer worked for Ford Automotive Co for over 30 years as an Upgrader retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, doing puzzles, karaoke, and especially loved caring for his dogs. 

He is survived by wife of 40 years, Hilma Jean (nee Fields); his children, Theresa (David Hut) Adkins, Kim (Chris) Jones, Bernard (Deborah) Cody, Linda (Mark) Reynolds, Brenda (Eric) Leffler, Christopher Cody; step daughter, Mary Murrelo; 19 grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and his sisters, Sharon Morton and Cheryl Suttle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Cecil and Carrie (nee Moore) Cody; son, Elmer Ray Cody Jr, and siblings, Betty Jones, Shirley Carr, Karen Morton, and Jim Cody.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 2:00 until the time of service at 4:00 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 1183 Douglas Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. 

Graveside service with burial to follow will be 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Pleasantview Cemetery, Fayetteville, WV.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, Inc. 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
