Elwin Spear Obituary

Elwin Eugene Spear, Age 93, Beloved Husband, Father, and Uncle.
Passed away in his sleep in the early hours of March 9, 2025 from heart failure at the VA hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was born in St. Paul, MN on December 8, 1931 to Elwin B and Helen (Finch) Spear. He went to grade school in a one-room schoolhouse, walking in all kinds of weather. In his early teen years, he worked at a private golf course near his house as a caddie. There he became very interested in the 1930s classic cars the members of the club were driving. Classic cars remained his passion throughout his life. Elwin has been a member of the Rolls Royce Club for 68 years and also belonged to local classic car clubs where he served as a judge for various events. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1949. He joined the United States Navy and served from February 2, 1951 to January 28, 1955, which included time in the Korean war from January 1, 1952 to October 1, 1952. After his discharge from the Navy he became a pattern maker and became a member of the Pattern Makers Union (IAM Union) in October of 1955. Also serving many years as secretary of his local twin cities union.
On October 19, 1974, he married Joyce Burg in St. Paul. They moved to their home in Lakeville, MN where they have lived for over 50 years. In 1975 their daughter, Karna, was born and became the joy of their lives. Elwin enjoyed being a husband and father and was always available for family times together.
Elwin is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; daughter, Karna (Geoff Egerman); nephews, Robert (Malinda) Giefer, Mark (Pam) Giefer, Glen (Lisa) Giefer; sister-in-law, Beverly Holtz; many relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Elwin B. And Helen Spear, sister, Judy Giefer (Bob); grandparents, nephews, and cousins.
