Elwood Gunderson, age 71, of Lengby, MN, passed away on Monday, March 3rd, St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15th, at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. John Ragan officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, March 14th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. Family will also greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday (March 15th) at the church. Elwood Lloyd Gunderson was born on June 12, 1953, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Grant and Alice (Fischer) Gunderson. He grew up in Lengby, attended the Lengby school and graduated from Fosston High School in 1971. Following high school, Elwood worked for the railroad for a year. He then started his career in trucking, working for Dick Anderson and Kenny Lofstrand.
Elwood was united in marriage to Diane Anderson on June 12, 1974 (his birthday) in McIntosh, Minnesota. In 1978, he bought his own rig and was owner/operator for the rest of his career. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 but continued trucking up until February of this year.
Elwood leased to Valley Express of Fargo and hauled for Northern Woodwork in Thief River Falls for many years. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats, food, going for rides on the pontoon, tending his apple trees, and watching Gunsmoke. He will be dearly missed.
Elwood passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth at the age of 71 years.
Survivors include his wife, Diane, of Fosston; daughter, Chris (Neil) Harmon of Lengby; grandson, Zachary Pratt of Gonvick, MN; granddaughter, Rachel Pratt Erickson (Logan) of Bemidji, MN; two step grandchildren, Terrance and Jasmine Erickson; nieces and nephews; Godson, Chad Halverson; and his dog, Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Alex Pratt; great grandchild, baby Baker; both siblings; sister-in-law, Rachel Senger; and son-in-law, Tony Pratt.
