Eric Gilbert Obituary

Eric Charles Gilbert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday July 4, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne at the age of 60, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 8, 1964, in Slayton, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Rebecca Gilbert (Wing). Eric lived a life characterized by his deep family roots and unwavering support for those he loved.

Eric's career began in the electrical field during his younger years, but he later thrived for over 20 years as a glass technician for several glass companies. His dedication to his work mirrored the commitment he showed to his family and friends throughout his life. He always made time for those he loved. On April 21, 1986, he married his true love, Cathy. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. There was never a Cathy without Eric or Eric without Cathy.

Eric had a vibrant personality; he was known as the prankster in the family, always being one step ahead of everyone else. His adventurous nature took him outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing and camping. He also loved to travel with his grandchildren.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Cathy Gilbert; their daughters, Conya Holloway and Cassie Leadford; and his cherished grandchildren, Siera Crippin, Ryan Crippin, Steve Warner, Catherine (Chris) Colt, and Eric Leadford. He was also the proud grandfather of great-grandchildren Rilynn Crippin, Steven Warner, Chloe Heath, Cainan Colt, Ronnan Colt, Tate Colt, Cali Colt, and Avely Rodriguez.

Eric is further survived by his mother, Becky Gilbert; his sister, Brenda (Mark) Hellyer; and his brothers, Blain (Linda) Gilbert and Mitch (Dian) Gilbert. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He now joins his father, Chuck Gilbert; his sister, Kate Gilbert; his grandson, Anthony Leadford; and his great-grandson, Chazz Crippin, in eternal rest.

The memorial service for Eric will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St. Warsaw, IN 46580 at 11:00 am.
