Erin Michelle Painter Carver went by many names. To her students, she was Mrs. Carver or Mrs. Erin. To her beloved niece, nephews, and close family, she was simply "E", but the name she wore most proudly was Mommy. It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Erin Carver.
Erin was a librarian and teacher for nearly 17 years. She was a staunch advocate for public education and literacy. Erin was beloved by her students and coworkers at Crossnore Elementary School, a place that she held a deep love for, even after her teaching career ended. Erin was a 2004 and 2009 graduate of Appalachian State University where she earned a Master's Degree in Library Science and spent her Saturdays in the fall cheering for the Mountaineers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading and rereading her favorite book series, especially on snowy days. Erin passed down her love of reading and literature to many students, who credit her with turning around their educational career for the better. Her proudest moments were those when students hit milestones and reached their full potential.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Gary "Pop" Cooper and Richard "Paw Paw Rick" Painter, Jr., and a special aunt with whom she was very close, Angie Painter.
Erin was the daughter of Tim and Renee Painter of Belmont, NC, and is also survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Josh Carver, and adored daughters, Nora Grace Carver and Lena Angelica Carver; her grandmothers, Diane "Diney" Cooper of Belmont, NC and Cheryl "Memaw" Painter of Mt. Holly, NC; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenny and Cheryl Carver of Jonas Ridge; two brothers, Jake Painter and wife, Ciara, of Clyde, and Jonathan Painter and wife, Jessica, of Greer, SC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Justin and Whitney Carver of Banner Elk; nieces and nephews: Cooper Painter, Thatcher Carver, Maggie Carver, and Deacon Carver; her beloved dog, Leo, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family. The family would also like to acknowledge the Jarrell family – Jason, Anna, Amelia and Bridgette – for their friendship and love.
Erin's family would like to send a special thank you to the many doctors and nurses at various facilities throughout her cancer treatments for their care and support, especially her primary care doctor, Jennie Goodwin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Erin Carver Scholarship Fund via check to Josh Carver for a scholarship in Erin's memory for students who wish to purse teaching as a career. They can be mailed to P.O. Box 37, Jonas Ridge, NC 28641.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced.
