Ethel "Peanut" McGuire Slone, 91 of Grayson Ky, went to be with her Lord on Sunday July 13th, after a brief illness. Ethel was born on March 3rd, 1934, in Hitchins, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Saphronia Easterling McGuire. Ethel was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Billy Jack Slone in 2005. She was also proceeded in death by a son-in-law, Randy Boggs, 2 brothers Harold and Grant McGuire and 5 sisters: Agnes Hutchins, Hattie Camp, Katherine Shaffer, Merle McClave, Elizabeth Camp, and Georgia Taylor. Ethel faithfully attended the Willard Church of Christ, she loved her family immensely and set a great example of a Christ centered life by her daily displays of faith, prayer, and grace.
Ethel was often known as "Peanut", a nickname established as an infant due to her unusually small size. Ethel was a homemaker, a caregiver to all of her grandchildren, she enjoyed sewing, reading, playing board games, cards and rarely missed a UK basketball or football game. Ethel owned, Country Calico, a craft store on Main Street in Grayson, she sold craft supplies as well as providing painting and crafting workshops. She was an outstanding cook, her most famous being chicken and dumplings, and took pride in cooking for her family and friends. She provided her family with beautiful memories of Sunday dinners and enjoyed the loud chaos her family brought to the table. Even in her older years she insisted on cooking holiday meals and pouring into the family she and Gramps built.
Ethel is survived by 2 daughters: Jacqueline and Tim Woods, Bernice and Jerry Adams, all of Grayson, and 2 sons David and Kim Slone of Grayson and Greg and Salli Slone of Perryville, Ky. Ethel was known as "Nanny" by her 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her Nanny role was one of her favorites, taking pleasure in the legacy she built with her husband. She always greeted them with a hug and "love you shoog". Her grandchildren include, Ryan and Miranda Tussey, Courtney and Barrett Bush, Kegan and Hannah Tussey, Jessica and Ben Fritz, Jared and Robin Adams, Emily and Aaron Rayburn, Sarah and Alex Johnson, Camden and Holli Slone, and Lauren Slone and Christian Mealey. Her 17 great grandchildren include: Chaseton Tussey and Nicole Porter, Treven Tussey and Sarah Haney, Bryce and Allie Bush, Brady and Abbie Bush, Hudson Tussey, Haddox Tussey, Bennett Fritz, Beckett Fritz, Slone Fritz, Claudia Adams, Asher Rayburn, August Rayburn, Avery Rayburn, Lincoln Johnson, Samuel Slone and 2 step grandchildren Jadyn Newsome and Hudson Lilly.
Nanny was looking forward to the upcoming weddings of Chaseton and Nicole and Treven and Sarah. She was excited to welcome a new great granddaughter in November and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first great-great granddaughter in August. Ethel will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews and special friends including her best dog, Hollie.
Ethel's services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Barrett Bush, Bro. Aaron Rayburn and Bro. Jared Adams, ministers. The burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Her grandsons and oldest great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers and other grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
