Evelyn Holder Obituary

Presque Isle- Evelyn R Holder, 100, died Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Caribou Nursing Home. She was born in Presque Isle, Maine on September 27, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Faye (Briggs) Brown.
She was a long-time member of the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church of Presque Isle and served as a "holy folder'' and also was involved in delivering tapes to the shut-ins.
Evelyn, in her younger years, served as a crossing guard at the intersection of State and Mechanic St., allowing her to be home with her children when school was not in session. She later worked at the office of the city clerk and for the rest of her career she worked as a secretary at the vocational department for 25 years at MSAD #l under Neil Buck, whom she held in high regards. She retired in 1991.
During her retirement years, Evelyn was very active. She could be seen many days walking at the mall or at the forum. She loved Bingo, playing cards, and was part of the "domino girls" on her Dyer St. complex. She and her sister Beverly, would frequent Tim Hortons on Friday afternoons visiting over coffee with friends. She loved having her grandchildren for the night, watching favorite TV shows and playing games. She would always also cook them their favorite breakfast.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter, in 1971 at the early age of 46. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Holder, a great grandson, Isaiah Clairmont, two brothers Harold and Ralph Brown and a sister, Beverly Nelder. Evelyn also outlived many special friends including Phyllis Burgess, Barbara Norsworthy, Elsie Estey and Gladys Brewer to name a few.
She is survived by her son, Jack Holder and his wife Betty of Florida, her daughter Pam Lord and her husband Steve of Presque Isle. She also left behind three special grandchildren, Craig Holder and wife Emily of Tennessee, Kimberly Lavigne and husband Wes, and Lindsay Clairmont and husband Steve, all of Mapleton. She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren who were also a special part of her life.
Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and felt very fortunate to experience so many of their special events throughout her long life. Evelyn will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, a wonderful caring mom, a very special grandmother and a friend to many.
A visitation hour will take place at 10AM Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, a funeral service will take place at 11AM. The family invites you to a time of fellowship and refreshment immediately following the service at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church fellowship hall. A private family committal will take place later in the day.
