Everett Emmett Atwood
April 11, 1952-July 6, 2025
Everett Emmett Atwood Jr. Age 73, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 6th, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Crosby, Minnesota on April 11, 1952 to Everett Sr. and Betty (Bowman) Atwood. After living his early life in Minnesota, his family moved to LaPorte, where his father had lived during WWII. He attended Stillwell elementary school and then LaPorte for middle and high school, graduating from LPHS in 1970. He married Debra Behrman on July 12th, 1975 in her hometown of Columbus, Indiana.
After graduation he worked for the US Forestry Service in Idaho and drove long haul semi, among other things. He founded and owned Northern Indiana Tent rental from 1983 to 1988. In 1978 he started his long career in the lumber industry, founding Industrial Lumber Products in 1989, which was taken over by his son, Jason, in 2016 when he retired.
Everett loved being outdoors, retiring to work the hayfields and forests of his beloved Upper Peninsula farm, where he also continued his lifelong passions of hunting and fishing, as well as finding joy in a new hobby: bee keeping.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Debra (Behrman) Atwood and sons Jason (Kristen) Atwood, and Brian (Tammy) Atwood, and four grandchildren: Taylor, Elliott, Alexandra, and Matthew; sister Madalyn (Richard) Belzowski, and brother Alan (Crystal) Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leslie Atwood.
Arrangements are entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN, where the family will receive friends Monday, July 21 from 2 pm until 4 pm. Cremation has taken place.
