Everett Hunt Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 7, 2025.
Dr. Everett Jay Hunt, a devoted physician, husband, and father, passed away in Santa Barbara, California. Born in Ithaca, New York, Everett lived a life marked by discipline, purpose, and a deep commitment to his work and family.
Everett was raised on a 77-acre farm in Lansing, New York. He began college at Hamilton and earned his B.A. from the University of Utah in 1967. He received his M.D. from Syracuse Health Sciences Center College of Medicine in 1972, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary care at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. In 1977, he and his family moved to Santa Barbara, where he had a thriving private practice in pulmonary medicine, served in leadership roles at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Goleta Valley Community Hospital, and later cared for veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He concluded his career at Sansum Clinic, retiring in 2010 after more than three decades of service to the community.
Everett approached his life and work with a clear sense of duty, a sharp intellect, and an unshakable belief in doing things right. He provided steadily for his family and brought structure and intention to everything he touched-from his work in the intensive care unit to genealogical research projects.
His most enduring partnership was with his wife of 58 years, Linda Helen Young Hunt. They met as teenagers in Lansing Central High School and have been inseparable ever since. Their marriage was a true collaboration-marked by loyalty, laughter, warmth, and spontaneous dancing whenever their favorite songs played.
Everett was known for his sharp wit, strong opinions, and larger-than-life presence. He never hesitated to speak his mind and lived passionately by his convictions. His humor and energy left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife Linda; their four sons-Graham (Linda), Jason (Amanda), Tyler (Sara), and Cameron; and his six grandchildren: Isabel, Elena, Nathaniel, Lily, David, and Emma Jane.
A funeral service will be held at Santa Barbara Cemetery on Friday, July 11th at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow.
