Federica Esperanza Olivas, 83, of Levelland passed from this life on July 16, 2025. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Krestridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Krestridge Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Federica was known by her middle name Esperanza. Esperanza, born March 2, 1942, in Chihuahua, Mexico, spent her childhood in Ojinaga, Mexico, where her father was a farmer. As a teenager, Esperanza moved to Sanderson, Texas. In 1958, she met her future husband, Jose Olivas. They wed in 1960 in Ojinaga, Mexico, and lived there through the birth of their first child. Esperanza and Jose worked in agriculture throughout Texas, Arizona, and California, eventually settling in Levelland, Texas in 1965. Esperanza settled into her role as a homemaker and began to raise a family. Ultimately, she had six children- three boys and three girls. Esperanza was passionate about her faith, family, cooking, and gardening. It was during this time that she perfected a family tamale recipe given to her by her mother. In the 1970's, her desire to share her recipe with the community flourished and she started to make and sell them out of her home. Esperanza would carry out this passion for over five decades, to the degree that she was known about town as "The Tamale Lady". She finally hung up her apron in 2019.
She is preceded in death by her Parents, Bonifacio and Manuela Rodriques; siblings, her brother Francisco Rodriques, and her sister Ramona Diaz and daughter, Nora Zamora.
Esperanza is survived by her sister, Vickie Rodriques; brothers, Catarino and Antonio Rodriques; five children, Cande Olivas, Rosa Raub, Joe Olivas Jr., Laura Rendon, and Basil Olivas. She also is survived by 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family asks that any donations please be made in her honor to The American Cancer Society and St. Jude’s's Children's Hospital.
