Finis Eldon Brundage
1929-2025
Finis Eldon Brundage passed away peacefully June 17, 2025, at the age of 96 years. Finis was born May 19, 1929, in West Liberty, MO to Tressie (Oakley) and Virgil Brundage. Finis grew up in the Lucerne area and graduated from Lucerne High School in 1947. Following graduation Finis spent time with his brother Robert and other friends in Washington State before entering the military in 1951and was on his way home in 1953 when the treaty ending the Korean War was signed. Finis married Mary Sue Sandford on March 1, 1955. They began their life together northwest of Unionville, then in the St. John / Powersville area, moving to Newtown in 1976 and to Mill Grove in 1986.
Finis is survived by his children Jerry (Tammie) Brundage,
Princeton, MO; Deanna Brundage,
Princeton, MO; Casey (Angie) Brundage, Trenton, MO; John Brundage,
Princeton, MO; Lesa (David) Morrow, Ashland, MO; and George Brundage,
Princeton, MO. Also surviving are Finis' grandchildren Julie (Amend) Sealine, Kyle Brundage, Brad Brundage, Cody (Makenzie) Brundage, Toni (Oscar) Leon, Garrick Morrow, and Erin Morrow; and great grandchildren Hayes, Keegan, Olivia, Lilah Sue, Max, Luka, Elsie, and Sofie, and his nieces and nephews.
Finis was happiest being on the farm and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed hearing about their lives and sharing many, many stories from his life. Following a very close second was Finis' passion for his horses. He trained quarter and draft horses for more than 70 years. He was known across the United States for the gentleness and quality of his horses (i.e., "Brundage Broke"). Finis appreciated living in an Amish community, offering his assistance to neighbors and receiving the benefit of their knowledge, craftmanship and community care many times over.
Our Dad was a man of integrity and compassion, and a thoughtful listener. Dad preferred the simple things in life – a healthy family, cornbread and beans, a good horse to ride and a good team to drive. He was much happier sitting on a hard wooden wagon seat driving his team of draft horses than riding in the finest of cars. Dad was a thinker and could break even the most complex of ideas or issues down to the simplest of terms and we often benefited from Dad's guidance and wisdom. We are going to miss so many things about our Dad, including his stories, smile, and infectious laugh.
Preceding Finis in death was his wife of 63 years, his mother and father, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Hazel and John Sandford, and all of Finis' siblings and their spouses: George and Loretta Brundage, Mardell and Sammy Valentine, Keith Brundage, Robert and Roylynn Brundage, and Anna Lee and Mikkie Blanchard. Finis was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Idell and June Thompson, his niece Jennifer Valentine and his daughter Deanna's fiancé Robert Henry.
