Florence Yvonne Hubbard Dowd, 88, of Stedman, NC, passed peacefully at home on July 26, 2025.
Born March 9, 1937 to Willie and Carrie Hubbard, she grew up in a big, hardworking family with ten siblings. She learned the value of hard work early and carried it with her throughout her life. As a young woman, she met William Ambrose Dowd Jr., the love of her life. Their journey took them around the country as she supported him as a military wife and raised four children with love and strength. Later in life, she explored real estate, became a Master gardener, and enjoyed nothing more than a home cooked meal highlighting her garden’s goodness. She was a longtime member of Concord Baptist Church where her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ was a shining light, that she passed own to her family. She was full of laughter, warmth, and the kind of steady love that made everyone feel at home. We will miss her deeply but know she is watching over us, likely barefoot in her garden, smiling down as we chase the sunlight she always followed.
Her smile is still being honored through her love, William Ambrose Dowd, Jr, and children Peggy Word ( Bill), David Dowd (Jennifer), Billy Dowd and Angela Utley (Gary) , 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and her sister Janice Mobley. For those that want to share a hug or kind word, the family will have a Receiving of Friends, August 1st at 2:00pm, with a service following at 3:00pm at Concord Baptist Church in Autryville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 7591 Concord Church Road, Autryville, NC 28318.
