GREENFIELD – Floyd B. Hannon III, age 83, of Greenfield, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 9, 2025. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on November 5, 1941, to Floyd B. Hannon, Jr. and Ileen (Slout) Hannon. He graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1959. Mr. Hannon received his bachelor's degree in political science from Wichita University in 1966. He married Joan Carol (Sparks) on March 24, 1979, in Mohawk, Indiana.
Floyd was a police officer in Wichita, Kansas from 1962-1967. He was an FBI Agent and Supervisor for 27 years, working in Jackson, Mississippi, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Washington, D.C., retiring in Indianapolis in 1993. He was the first Deputy Director of the Indiana Gaming Commission 1993-1999, and Senior Vice-president for Compliance and Governmental Regulations for Horseshoe Gaming 1999-2001. Floyd enjoyed golf, and watching all sports, and especially IU Basketball. He also received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Governor Frank O'Bannon on June 4, 1999. He was a member of Brandywine Community Church and was a member of the Ex-Agents of the FBI.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Hannon; children, Sandy Sebastian (Jerry), and Steve Hannon (Carolyn); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Maryann Howerton (Bill) of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Bob Hannon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory, 1484 W. US HWY. 40, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:30 a.m. with David Roberson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Suburban Hospice, 156 Muskegon Drive, Greenfield, IN, 46140, or a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary. Friends may share a memory or condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
