Frank Gonzales February 13, 1936 – June 29, 2025
Frank Gonzales passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Gallup, New Mexico, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 13, 1936, in Gallup to Manuel and Emelia Gonzales, Frank was a lifelong resident who dedicated his life to his family and community.
In 1956, Frank proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country for two years. He went on to serve the Gallup Police Department with distinction-1961-1977 as patrol officer and 1977-1992 as Police Chief and later as McKinley County Sheriff for 14 years, until his retirement.
A man deeply committed to his community; Frank was one of the founding members of NCI and served on the Gallup City Council. He was also the first All-American athlete from Gallup Catholic School.
Frank found joy in the simple things: coffee with friends, time at the family cabin, and trips to the casino. His strong presence, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to others made a lasting impact on all who knew him. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Frank is survived by his daughters, Stephanie McDaniel and Carrie Fox; grandchildren Jeremiah McDaniel, Aaron McDaniel, Franki Gomez, JJ Ortiz, Johnny Ortiz, Gage Fox, and Brian Andrew Fox; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two best friends, Gumersindo "Gumie" Garcia and Bill Nechero.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Emelia Gonzales; his daughter, Lisa Gonzales Ortiz; and siblings John Gonzales, Ruth Gonzales, Chano Gonzales, Gilbert Gonzales, Manuel Gonzales, Joe Gonzales, Raymond Gonzales, Alvita G. Ramirez, and Josie Jaramillo.
