Frank Brown Hines, III (also known as Brownie to some), 78, died on July 20, 2025, at the Margate Health Facility in Jefferson, NC.

Born in Richmond, VA, Frank grew up in eastern North Carolina. After attending Charlotte Hall Military Academy in Maryland, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton Stone) in Wilson. Frank married Donna McCracken in 1978, and they lived in Orlando (FL), Atlanta (GA), Dallas (TX), and Northern Virginia before retiring to West Jefferson about 10 years ago.

A chemist by training, Frank was a tinkerer at heart. No engine, tool, gadget, or mechanical process was safe from his compulsion to try and improve it. He loved people and conversation and silly jokes, and was generous, good-hearted, and sincere.

Frank is survived by his widow, Donna Hines, of West Jefferson, NC; his brother, Jess Hines, of Indianapolis, IN; one brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A memorial service and celebration of Frank Hines' life will be held at Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church in West Jefferson, NC, on Wednesday, July 30, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be in the Church's Common Room prior to the service, starting at 1:00 pm. Flowers should be sent to Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church by 12:00 noon on the day of the service; memorial donations should be directed to the cause or organization of the donor's choice.
