Frank Mislivec Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 16, 2025.
Frank J. Mislivec
July 26, 1940 – July 14, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Frank J. Mislivec, who died in his sleep after a joy filled family reunion in White Earth, MN. He spent his final days doing what he loved most: enjoying time with his beloved siblings, telling stories, playing the accordion, and filling the room with laughter and joy.
Born on July 26, 1940, in Mahnomen, MN, Frank was the son of Mary (Stech) and Frank Mislivec. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his cherished son, Matthew Mislivec, whose memory never strayed far from his heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Robbie Mislivec, his rock and lifelong partner in love and adventure. Their marriage was a shining example of mutual respect, profound love, and unwavering support. Their love and dedication as parents set a standard that their children consider the greatest of blessings and was the envy of many. Together, they raised three sons: the late Matthew Mislivec, Frank D. Mislivec (Shannon Stanton), and Mark Mislivec (Troy Brazell). Frank also leaves behind the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Brooke and Frankie Mislivec, who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Frank is also survived by his siblings: Lorene Austin, J. Thomas Mislivec, Karen Palubicki, Robert Mislivec; and special brother-in-law, Donald Mayrand-each of whom held a special place in his heart and shared in the close-knit family bond that shaped his life. Their recent reunion was more than a celebration of family-it was a testament to a life rich with love, laughter, and loyalty.
Throughout his life, Frank found joy in serving others and forming deep connections. A gifted storyteller and entertainer, he enlivened countless family gatherings with his warmth, music, and legendary humor. His mischievous streak came from a place of warmth and humor-never mean, always playful. Frank earned a master's degree in education and devoted himself to teaching and guiding others-both in the classroom and in life. As a natural mentor, he led with patience, authenticity, and a playful spirit, leaving lasting memories for all who knew him.
A proud son of Waubun, his heart never truly left his hometown. He also relished quiet moments on his family's land, lovingly known as "the 80." He could spend hours there constructing, tinkering, reflecting, or simply being still. Whether surrounded by trees or by people, he was completely at home.
To family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers, he was Papa Frank or Frankie; to his grandchildren, he was simply Papa. To everyone, he was a teacher, entertainer, handyman, and, above all, a man who loved deeply and lived generously. His kindness, infectious smile, and playfulness made everyone feel like family. Admired by many, Frank had no enemies and limitless warmth. To be in Frank's presence often meant listening to tales of his harmless antics, humorous bits of wisdom, and recollections that grew more legendary each time he told them.
Friends and family would often say, "Papa will do it," knowing Frank could always be counted on. Whether you needed a helping hand, a joke, a smile, or a toolbox, he showed up without hesitation. No task was too big, no favor too much-if someone needed help, Papa would be there. To his children and grandchildren, he was simply the one you could always rely on.
Frank saw no strangers, only future friends. His warmth, humor, and compassion made everyone feel welcome. To his children, he and Robbie were simply the best parents anyone could wish for.
His passing is an immense loss, but his life was an even greater gift. To know Frank Mislivec was to love him-and to be loved by him was to be truly blessed. His gentleness, generosity, and good humor were constants in the lives of many, and the absence of his laughter, music, and steady presence will be deeply felt.
While we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life that touched so many, a life well-lived and well-loved. His accordion may be quiet now, but the music he brought to others will echo forever.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Waubun Community Center on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:30 am. A Celebration of Frank's life will also be held at 1106 Summit Avenue in St. Paul, MN, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Circles of Faith UCC Church in Waubun where he joined other musicians every Tuesday to play music. This was one of the highlights of his week! If you prefer, you can donate to the charity of your choice. His family also asks that you honor Frank's legacy by living with joy, finding reasons to laugh, playing music, and loving without hesitation- because that's what Frank did, every single day. If you have any cherished photos or memories of Frank that you would like to share, please feel free to send these to [email protected].
And we'll all be saying it, for years to come: "Papa will do it."
Rest well, Papa Frank. You gave us everything-your love, your songs, your time, and your heart. You will always be with us, in every smile, in every laugh, in every song played on the accordion.
