Franklin Douglas Witt, 82, of Bunker Hill, Indiana, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Hickory Creek Healthcare, Peru, Indiana, with his family by his side.
He was born October 12, 1942, to Schley and Amelia (Campbell) Witt in Rose Hill, Virginia. On December 31, 1963, he married Jannie Kay McKinney, who survives.
Frank graduated from Thomas Walker High School, Ewing, Virginia in 1961. He then made his home in Kokomo, Indiana, where he worked at General Motors for 37 years achieving six skilled trade certifications and was a UAW Committeeman. Frank was a member of Howard Lodge No. 93 F.&.A.M. and Eastern Woodland Carvers Club.
Family was of the utmost importance to Frank. He loved his family dearly and was always available in the time of need, to lend a hand, or hold one. Time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest treasures.
He was a true craftsman, enjoying leather tooling, working with stained glass and woodcarving. Many of his creations adorn Jannie and his home that he built with pride. Frank enjoyed music and attended many concerts of his favorite artists, traveled to yearly steel guitar conventions with Jannie and occasionally could be heard strumming his guitar in the evening.
He was an outdoorsman, enjoying racing motocross, riding his street bike, camping trips with his family and just being in the woods. Every summer he could be found in his garden, growing and harvesting everything from "A" sparagus to "Z" ucchini!
Frank is survived by his son, Travis Witt, Kokomo; daughters, Page Smith, Bunker Hill; Julie Corbit, Kokomo; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; brother, Robert (Darlene) Witt, Longwood, Florida; sisters, Linda Leicht, Kokomo; Beulah Welch, Kokomo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, was entrusted with arrangements. A private service was held June 6, 2025. Burial followed at Rankin Cemetery. Pastor Jimmy Hunt officiated.
Let us remember Frank not just for what he did, but for what he was- a man of character, love and an unforgettable smile. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.FlowersLeedyAllen.com.
