Gary Allen Bishop was born January 7, 1941, son of Allen and Stella Goldsberry Bishop. Allen succumbed to typhoid fever four months before Gary's birth. As a young widow, Stella sought employment in Cincinnati. Baby Gary was left in the loving and nurturing care of his maternal grandparents, John L. and Nellie Goldsberry along with his surrogate dad, Uncle Johnny Goldsberry.
Gary Allen started school in the one room, Harris School. He graduated from Owen County High School in 1960 having served as Senior Class President.

Following high school graduation, Gary worked 42 years with Owen Rural Electric Cooperative. He started with REA while in school, working two summers. He retired in 2001 as Line Superintendent in the northern end for RECC.
Gary loved being on the farm working with his cattle, horses, and donkey. He was an avid hunter over the years. He enjoyed the old tv westerns, NASCAR, and all the sports on tv. His dog, Ol' Blue Boy was a constant companion for some 16 years.
