Taylor-Stine Funeral & Cremation - MerrillGary Michael Mosser, 84, passed away peacefully at Aspirus Merrill Hospital on July 10, 2025. He was born in Merrill on May 2, 1941, to Stanley and Helen (Zastrow) Mosser.
Gary graduated from Merrill High School in 1959. He started dating Jill J. Berndt when she was a senior in high school. A few years later, he enlisted in the United States Army serving our country from 1962-1965. Jill joined Gary in Germany and they were married on December 24, 1963, by a German official. Four days later, December 28, 1963, they were married again on base by an American chaplain, however, December 24, 1963 is their legal wedding date and have been married for 61 years.
Gary loved playing baseball in his younger days, loved to ride horses, trout fishing, enjoyed pheasant hunting out west, and deer hunting with his son, Mike, at the cabin they proudly built together. He was an avid Packer Fan and especially enjoyed watching the Brewers.
Gary worked for many years at Drew’s Piggly Wiggly as the produce manager, followed by Ward Paper Mill, and then finally retired as a custodian at Jefferson Elementary School.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Jill Mosser of Merrill; daughter, Jamie M. (Mosser) Clark (Brian Hill) of Schofield; grandson, Mitchell Clark (Allegra) of Arvada, CO; and step granddaughter, Mikaela (Hill) Brodziski (Tyler) of Merrill, WI and children, Bailey and Lindy. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol (Mosser) Hommerding and Judy (Mosser) Karau; and sister-in-law, Eunice Berndt.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Michael Scott Mosser; and brothers-in-law, Patrick Hommerding, James Karau, and Arlo Berndt.
Gary was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill. Funeral visitation will be held at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 903 E. Third St., Merrill, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The memorial service will immediately follow visitation with Rev. Michael Southcombe officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Gary to St. Stephens United Church of Christ or the Lincoln County Humane Society.
The family would like to especially thank all the staff at Aspirus Merrill Hospital for their amazing care for Gary in his final two days. Further thanks to the staff at Woodland Court Elder Services where he lived the past five years due to health issues that prevented him from living at home.
