Obituary of Gary A. Pope
Gary A. Pope, 61, of Jackson Township passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at CentraState Medical Center. He was born in Manhattan and was raised in Queens and Manhattan and had lived in Franklin Park before settling in Jackson eight years ago. Gary was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Army, and his commitment to duty was unwavering. He was a dedicated Security Sergeant at Teachers College, Columbia University for 25 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to keeping the campus safe. Gary was a loving husband and father who adored his children and took pride in their accomplishments. He was a man of many talents and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Gary had a great sense of humor and a magnetic personality that drew people to him. He had a love for music and movies. In his free time, Gary enjoyed watching sports, particularly the New York Yankees, and was a lifelong liberal democrat. He was a special person who was loved by all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his mother, Carolyn Robinson. Gary is survived by his wife, Donna M. Shaw Pope of Jackson; two children, Gary Pope of Georgia and Niara Pope of Georgia; father, Paul Pope of Manhattan; brother, Paul Pope and his wife, Tawanda; niece, Diamond Pope.
A gathering of friends will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM with his memorial service to follow. Interment will be private. For those who desire, contributions in memory of Gary may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
