Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. - MarathonGary Starzinski, age 71, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in Marathon, WI.
He was born on October 21, 1953, in Wausau, WI to Peter and Agnes (Bargender) Starzinski. He attended Marathon High School before studying at U.W.-Stevens Point and earning a degree in soil sciences.
Gary was involved in dairy, ginseng, and mushroom farming along with starting and running his business, Star Environmental Services, for over 30 years. He enjoyed the quiet life in nature at home and at Sally's Place in the Harrison Hills. He loved floating on the boat, spending time in the woods, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing softball, and following sporting events and concerts. Gary was proud to be called a "Pollack."
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Starzinski; his two sons, Rick Star (Liz) and Andy Starzinski (Jill); his two step-children, Marissa Weiss (Michael) and Brad Stieber; three grandchildren, Rune Star, Eliana Starzinski, and Max Weiss; five sisters, Suzanne Metz (Bob), Alvina Lutz, Mary Jane Sydow (Bob), Betty Blume (Larry), and Beverly Kafka (Glenn); and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon, with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier presiding. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1 and continue on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, all at the church. Private burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, town of Cassel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
