Geneva Woods, age 93, of Southern Pines, NC passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Geneva was born in Laurel Fork, VA on October 26, 1930 to the late Wilbert and Guida Nester.

She graduated from Hillsville High School in 1948 and began working for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company after graduating, staying until she retired at the age of 50. Geneva loved to travel, being exposed to new cultures and meeting new people. She travelled to 40 countries and six of the seven continents. Special travels included a round-the-world cruise in 1964, driving cross country in her fifties and climbing Ayers Rock in Australia at 60. She never met a stranger and made countless friends while she travelled the world.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Louis J. Woods; sister, Gloria Nester Jennings; brothers Clifford and Randolph Nester; and nephew Mark Nester.

She is survived by loving nephews and nieces Allen (Donna) Nester, Roger (Joanne) Nester, Nancy (Terry) Hamlet, all of Danville, VA; Judy (Linwood) Tucker of Richmond, VA; Jennifer (Chuck) Hall of Durham, NC; and Amy (John) Wiley of Roanoke, VA.

A private service will be planned for a later date.
