George Carden Obituary

George W. Carden

February 22, 1945 - March 28, 2025

George W. Carden, Jr. passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach on March 28, 2025 at the age of 80. He lived with his loving wife Susan, in Va. Beach for fifty-four years. God blessed them with two children and three grandchildren, all of whom they are extremely proud.

George was predeceased by his father George W. Carden, Sr. and his mother Connie Alta Bond Carden. He is survived by his wife, Susan and his two children, George Edward Carden (Sandra Wittman Carden) and Sara Bond Carden Craig (Lawrence (Larry) Craig) and his beloved granddaughters, Kathleen Elizabeth (Katie Beth) Carden, Alexandra Alta Elliotte (Lex) Carden and Scarlett Bond Craig all of Virginia Beach.

George had an unbreakable bond with his siblings, Barbara Louise (Bobbie) Carden Hawkins and husband (Clarence (Buddy) Hawkins), and Terry Bond Carden. Their love centered around their mutual respect for each other that carried into adulthood.

George was born in Roanoke, Virginia and attended Patrick Henry High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 during the Vietnam War and was transferred to Korea serving in the Civil Engineering Squadron 557 Red Horse air support group as a Construction Technician. There he used his early skills that he learned as a teenager working for his father in the heavy equipment industry to later become a knowledgeable, successful heavy equipment sales representative, selling and renting heavy equipment all over Tidewater and the Mid-Atlantic states. He was a sales manager, district manager and was certified with major equipment brands.

He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and sang bass in the Chancel Choir for over 40 years. He was a faithful elder, and a dedicated member that religiously attended the Tuesday Men's Breakfast and Bible Study group.

George's family holds on tightly to the abundance of joyful memories of his wit and intelligence. He was a perfectionist in everything he touched. A master woodworker that personally made everybody something. A man of solution, he could fix anything and was an incredible problem-solver. He was always nearby to assist with many family and friends projects for church, schools, and exhibits.

George was a true gentleman, grateful for every blessing in his life. He never complained or made excuses. A man of few words, he will be remembered not for what he said, but how he lived his life. He was selfless, gracious, kind and generous, but above all as he was a wonderful father of two great children and a deeply loved "Poppi" to three little precious granddaughters.

Like a person quietly spotting the missing puzzle piece, George's technical insight and gentle nature insured success for all.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th Street, Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. For those wishing to make a donation in honor of George, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.
