George E. Durbin of Whittier North Carolina passed away at home Sunday, July 6, 2025. He was born December 27, 1948 in Lorain, Ohio. George attended Keystone High School. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1968 to 1969 in Viet Nam. He then trained with the Marines for Embassy Duty for 6 months and was stationed in Geneva Switzerland until 1974.
George is survived by his wife of 23 years; Iris Reen Swindle (Durbin); son Derek (Allison) Durbin; daughter Nicole (Nikki) Durbin; grandchildren, Zachary Durbin, Brooke Durbin and Brock Durbin; step daughter, Kendra Beatty Reddish (Scott), stepsons, Jens Beatty (Nicole), Jamin Beatty (Katy), Quinn Newland (fiancé Shannon) and Zachary Newland; Brother Gene (Brenda) Durbin of Ohio, sisters Judy Pawinski of North Carolina and Brenda (of late Dave) Karnofel of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arland and Mary (nee Widener) Durbin; brother-in-law Dave Karnofel; and former wife Lola.
George always had a passion for refuge dogs and would always take them in and care for them. He had been doing much renovation work on their old farmhouse, bringing it back to life.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Cherokee United Methodist Church in Cherokee, North Carolina.
