George Lowman Obituary

George H. Lowman, 92, of Manistique, Michigan passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique. George was born on June 1,1933 to his parents Walter and Estelle (Hansel) Lowman in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating high school with the class of 1951, George joined the U.S. Air Force. There he learned and became an air traffic controller participating in rigorous training, including how to manage and maneuver high stress life and death situations. As a civilian he worked at many airports, Dulles, Cleveland, Milwaukee, St. Louis, and finally, Dallas Fortworth. He retired from the FAA after thirty-plus years as an air traffic controller Supervisor at the DFW airport receiving many honors along the way.

George loved to travel. He had visited forty-eight states and even made his way across Canada, visiting each province along the way. He and his first wife Marlene set-off on their great travel adventures with their fifth wheel.

George was an outgoing, sociable man with an immense sense of humor and a generous spirit. He possessed a real sense of community and enjoyed volunteering at Kiwanis, Sioux Choix Lighthouse, and the Manistique Senior Center where he played bridge every week!

He married Linda, his second wife, in 2006. He lovingly referred to her as the greatest joy of his life! Together, they spent time with family, traveled, and spent winters in Tucson, Arizona. They shared a love for travel, taking each grandchild on numerous vacations. Recently, he especially enjoyed daily breakfasts with friends at Big Boy.

George is survived by his wife Linda of nineteen years, his children, son George, Jr. Lowman and daughters Mary and Karen Lowman; stepsons, Rich (Jackie) Parker, Randy (Kim) Parker, Ryan Parker, and stepdaughter Megan (Shay) Simmons. Additionally, his grandchildren, Greg Lewis, Harley (Ethan) LaCross, Brittany Macheta, Richard Parker, Brad Parker, Mason Simmons, Toby Simmons, and Madeline Simmons, in addition to numerous nieces, and nephews whom he adored.

Visitation for George will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Fausett Family Funeral Home in Manistique from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with a military honors service at 10:30 am. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:30 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Father Ben presiding. Luncheon to follow.

Graveside services will be announced by the family in the coming weeks.
