Microphones are instruments of voice and expression that frequently are symbols of power, communication, and the act of sharing one's thoughts. They help with amplification…..whether it is used for the fundamentals of recording music, making sounds audible to large audiences, or for the "hype man" to energize and engage the crowd. The hype man…..A master of creating excitement, while using his voice to command attention and get the crowd pumped up! "G-Swagg on the Mic" was that guy that made everyone feel like they were a part of the vibe….the culture!

The record didn't skip a beat when George LaurantSwaggard Jr., was born on July 22, 1980, to George L. Swaggard, Sr. and Brenda White Swaggard in Flowood, MS. Affectionally referred to as "George Jr.": by his immediate family; "Junebug": by his Uncle Ollie Gentry; "Uncle George": by his niece, Farah; "King George": from his early radio days. Based upon his energetic and beloved persona, many coined the everlasting title of "G Swagg On the Mic"! From the first groove of the record of life for George, each melodic beat, was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering commitment to making those around him feel good. He was known for putting smiles on everyone's face and he was the "hype-man" to all who knew him.

We're about to kick things up a notch….George accepted Christ to be his guide at an early age while growing up at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jackson, MS. He was an altar boy, participated on the youth softball team, and was a member of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). His love for Christ was strengthened even more when he became a member of Anderson Methodist Church in Jackson MS. George continued his love for Christ after relocating to Dallas and worshiping at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.

As the record kept spinning, George acquired a wealth of knowledge, skills and talents throughout his life. He attended North Jackson Elementary, Powell Jr. High School, and Calloway High School. In his early years, George took Karate and played softball with Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America (Troop 701). He adored his beloved Troop Leader, Mrs. Josie Loveless. He really enjoyed riding on the back of her truck!

It should be noted that George's love of music and entertainment flourished at Calloway High School as a member of the "Charger Funk Band". He shared his love of drumming and deejaying at an early age. His Band Director, Mr. Joe Mitchell, was so impressed by George's talent that he hired George to DJ at "Soopsthe Ultimate" while he was still in high school.

A legacy of education, brotherhood and service, George was a proud graduate of "Thee" Jackson State University, earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Marketing in May 2005. While attending Jackson State he was involved in numerous collegiate organizations included, but not limited to; The American Marketing Association, The JSU Student Judiciary Advisory Council, The National Association of Black Journalists, and The Children's Defense Fund "Freedom School."

And the beat goes on and on….George's love of people and wanting to see others succeed in life empowered his passion to do more. Bro. George Swaggard, Jr. was initiated as a Master Mason into T.C. Almore Lodge No. 242, Most Worshipful Stringer Grand Lodge (MS), Prince Hall Affiliated, in the Spring of 2001. He subsequently joined Jackson Consistory No. 117 where he attained the 32nd degree of Masonry and in 2005 he crossed the burning sands of Rissah Temple No. 130 where he became a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. Throughout his travels as a Mason, Bro Swaggard was known as a jovial and generous brother who took seriously his obligations and commitment to the tenets of Freemasonry.

The tracks were laid…..His educational journey shaped his values of purpose, pride, and perseverance, and laid the foundation for a life dedicated to leadership and service. George was also a devoted brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated in Spring2011, where he embodied the fraternity's noble ideals: achievement, service, and brotherhood. As a member of the Fort Worth Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, George mentored youth at the Kappa Kamp – an enrichment camp focusing on college readiness, business and entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and team building.

You're locked in, and it's about to go down…….George's work career began in Jackson MS as an on-air radio personality alongside "Lil Homie in the Regal" (J. David Crumpton) and a production assistant/promotions director with (WJMI, WKXI, WOAD, and WYJS) radio stations. When George moved to Dallas, he worked with Dallas' #1 Hip-Hop & R&B station K104 and as a production assistant with the Steve Harvey Morning Show with KRNB Smooth R&B 105.7. The Dallas Metroplex brought many opportunities for "G Swagg On the Mic" to work at Sandaga 813, The Hideaway Bar & Grill, and with several DJs/friends such as IE, FREEZE, and JayClipp, just to name a few. George had a talent for bringing people together to have a great time. His distinct voice, infectious enthusiasm, and ability to connect with the crowd led to immense experiences. Beyond the beat of the drum, George served as a public servant for over 15 years with the Social Security Administration as a Disability Adjudicator and Americn Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Union Steward.

Beyond the mic, George kept everyone laughing and always had a word of wisdom to share. If he saw you sitting alone, he was the one who would walk over to you and get you engaged. It is because of this acute character trait that he volunteered to coach a then 5-year-old Farah's basketball team to win numerous victories on and off the court. George was an avid fan of JSU sports, Duke men's basketball, and the Dallas Cowboys.

George's legacy dedicated to the art of performance and captivating the crowd, will continue to be in the hearts and minds of his loving parents, George L. and Brenda Swaggard , Sr. of Jackson, MS; a sister, Rochelle D. Swaggard of Madison, MS; a niece, Farah P. Lacey of Madison, MS; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, friends, and thousands of "G Swagg On the Mic" fans.
