Gerald Harris, age 91, of Shelbyville, TN, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Shelbyville, Gerald was born on January 20, 1934, to the late James Brady Harris and Annie V. Hinson Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Thomas Harris; stepdaughter, Lisa Jeanne Adams; step grandson, Phillip Bradley Frizzell; and siblings James L. Harris, Kenneth W. Harris, Doyle E. Harris, Carl C. Harris, William Harris, Martha Baldauff, Cecil R. Harris, James E. Harris, and Donnie Gore.

Gerald attended Shelbyville Central High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. From 1952 to 1955, he honorably served his country as a helicopter mechanic, with stations in Santa Ana, CA, Okinawa, Japan, and Memphis, TN.

Following his service, Gerald returned to Shelbyville, where he applied his mechanical skills to a long and successful career as a business owner. He opened Andy's Texaco on Madison Street and would go on to own and operate three additional stations: Andy's 231 Shell service station, Harris Mobile, and Andy's Amoco.

Gerald was also a gifted carpenter. He built his own home by hand-including a garage and a dedicated pool room where he enjoyed watching football games with friends and family. A natural problem-solver, Gerald could build, fix, or engineer nearly anything-a talent that made him indispensable to those around him.

He had a deep appreciation for Western novels, especially those by Louis L'Amour, and enjoyed quiet moments spent reading. He also loved fishing and had a fondness for collecting river stones with unique markings.

Above all, Gerald cherished time with his grandchildren. Many joyful memories were made at Pa and Granny's country home, where laughter and love were always abundant. One of his most beloved sayings-especially among the grandkids-was "Good gracious, growing Gallatin!"

Gerald deeply loved his family and was always ready to lend a hand or offer support. Known by many as the "Clutch Man," he was the one people turned to when something needed doing-always dependable, always present.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Vivian Dennis Harris; his children, Cynthia Diane Harris Sanders, Deborah Griggs, Benita Lahr, and Albert Leon McClaran; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Eugene Harris.

A visitation will be held 10am-12pm Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home immediately followed by a Celebration of Life service with Tony Harris officiating at 12:00 p.m.

At a later date Geralds ashes will be interred at Willow Mount Cemetery.
