Gerald "Jerry" Arnold Hornseth
November 29, 1947 – July 30, 2025 Gerald "Jerry" Arnold Hornseth, 77, of Elliott, ND, passed away on July 30, 2025. He was born on November 29, 1947, in Veblen, South Dakota, to Arnold and Patricia (Patty Nickeson) Hornseth. Jerry was baptized at Palestine Lutheran Church, rural Veblen, and confirmed in 1963 at Veblen Lutheran Church. Jerry began his education in a country school near Veblen, transferring to the Veblen School District in the fourth grade. He graduated high school in 1966. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in Vietnam. He served from April 15, 1970, to November 8, 1971, and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Jerry attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, graduating from the mechanic program. He went on to work as a John Deere mechanic for 42 years, retiring in September 2024. Over the years, he worked as a mechanic for RDO in LaMoure (1982–1988), RDO in Lisbon (1988–2003), and LaMoure Equipment in LaMoure (2003–2024). Before becoming a John Deere mechanic, he also worked for the City of LaMoure, Belgrade Power Line Installations, and participated in custom harvesting. Jerry was a member of the American Legion and served on the Elliott City Fire Board. He was also an active member of the local Saddle Club and enjoyed his time on the pit crew for a local race car driver, combining his love of cars with hands-on teamwork. When he was out on farm service calls, he often kept an eye out for old cars tucked away in fields or barns-always hopeful to discover a hidden gem. Outside of work, Jerry had a true passion for hunting, car shows, and watching NASCAR races-whether attending in person or cheering from his recliner. He particularly enjoyed everything Mopar. He was a dedicated car collector, showing his vehicles at numerous car shows where he earned multiple trophies and ribbons. His enthusiasm for cars, especially his love for Mopar, was something he shared with his friends in the Hy-Way Roller Auto Club and other fellow enthusiasts. Cherishing his memory are his sister, Lugene (Steve) Knock of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Neal (Karen) Hornseth and Terry Hornseth, both of Veblen, SD; his partner, Rose Swanson of Elliott, ND; her mother, Winnie Vogel of Lisbon, ND; and the rest of her family: Tammy (Chad) Roehrich and children Connor and Ali, Darren (Shannon) Privratsky and their son Devin, and Tyler (Maria) Swanson. He is also survived by his nephews, Tom Hornseth and Brandon Hornseth; nieces, Laura Anderson, April Tosse, Alisha Holzer, and Erika Christensen; and their extended families, along with countless friends who will forever treasure his memory. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Patricia Hornseth; his brother, Rodrick Hornseth; and sister-in-law, Beverly (Dennis) Vig. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 6, 2025, at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Lisbon, ND, with military honors to follow. Following the service, please join the family at the Park Pavilion at Sandager Park for lunch. Burial will take place at a later date at Veblen Cemetery. Jerry's service will also be live-streamed below.
