Gerald "Jerry" (JS) Schaefer, passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 2, 1945, in Lanesboro, MN, he was the son of Jacob and Doris Schaefer. Growing up on the family farm just north of Lanesboro, Jerry had a childhood filled with adventure and a deep connection to the outdoors.
After graduating from Lanesboro High School in 1964, Gerald married the love of his life, Cleo Braatz, on October 7, 1967. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and many memorable moments. Gerald was known for his stubbornness and his tendency for using quirky slang words, always bringing a smile to those around him. For over 20 years, he owned Schaefer Concrete, working hard and serving the community with pride. He also worked at the AMPI creamery, Fastenal and drove for the Amish.
An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Jerry loved nothing more than hitting the open road. He enjoyed prairie dog hunting, raccoon hunting and had a special fondness for horses, embracing the beauty of nature at every opportunity. He was the kind of guy who would give his shirt off his back and the last dollar in his wallet to anyone in need, always welcoming friends and strangers alike into his home. He had a knack for making phone calls at the crack of dawn, ready to share a good story or two.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Cleo Schaefer; children, Lisa Bernard, David (Teresa) Schaefer; grandchildren, Kaylie (Colton), Josh, Nate (Anna), Trenton (Alayna), Brandon; and siblings, Donnie (Linda) Schaefer, Maxine "Mic" (Bill) Tesch; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Doris; son-in-law, Mike Bernard; daughter-in-law, Darcy Schaefer; parents-in-law, Emanuel "Manny" and Emma Braatz; and many brothers and sister-in laws.
