GERALD'S LIFE AND LEGACY
Gerald Lee Schoolfield was born on January 26, 1984, in Salisbury, Maryland. He was the son of George Schoolfield, Sr. (Beth) and Brenda Marshall (Reginald).
He began his professional journey at the age of sixteen (16), working at Hardee's in Pocomoke City while attending Pocomoke High School, from which he graduated in June 2002. Shortly thereafter, Gerald began working in catering services at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), where he would go on to build a lasting and impactful career.
In 2004, he worked briefly as a driver for International Cab before returning to UMES in 2005 to join the housekeeping department. He also spent a short time employed with Sysco before ultimately returning to UMES, where he remained a dedicated and respected employee until his sudden passing on April 30, 2025.
Gerald met his future wife, Angela, during high school. Their friendship grew into a deep and lasting bond. He proposed in 2004, and they were married on June 10, 2005. Their marriage was a true partnership built on love, friendship, and mutual respect.
Outside of work, Gerald had a passion for bowling and actively participated in local tournaments. He was known for his quiet demeanor, generous heart, and sharp sense of humor. He was deeply devoted to his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer support without hesitation. Gerald will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and dependable man whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy: his devoted wife of twenty (20) years, Angela Brown Schoolfield; his three beloved children, Destiny Schoolfield, Ka'Mari Schoolfield, and Jayden Schoolfield; brother, George Schoolfield (Felicia); stepsisters, Jackie Christensen and Samantha Esbri; parents-in-law, Barbara Brown (Mark Fletcher) and Michael Cottingham; siblings-in-law, Trevon Brown, Danielli Dashields, Andrea Dashields, Chris Brown, Tiffany Selby, and Tiara Selby; a host of aunts and uncles, Clarence Tucker, Jr., Ruth (John) Leatherbury, Wayne (Ila) Tucker, Thomas Tucker, Sr., Gregory Tucker, Sr. (Robin), Marvin Tucker, Sr. (Olivia), Ronald Tucker, Sr. (Betty), Garry (Christine) Tucker, Hattie Beckwith, Jennifer (Ben) Odom, Bessie Fisher and Brendal (Marvin) Jones; great aunt, Eva Johnson; close lifelong friendships with Andrew Johnson, Terry Quintero-Moore, Anthony Pittman, Ernest Harmon, Ty Northam, Tyrone Branch and Robert Branch and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Doris and Clarence Tucker, Sr., paternal grandparents, James Schoolfield and Catherine Marshall and beloved aunts, Caroline Fletcher, Peggy Cropper, Loretta Tucker and Jennifer Tucker.
Gerald's warm spirit, unwavering loyalty, and quiet strength will be forever missed and remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
