Gilbert "Ray" Evans, 69, of Monrovia, left this world unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, 2025. He was born in Indianapolis on August 10, 1955, to the late Loren Gilbert and Lela Marie (Morris) Evans.
Growing up in Indianapolis, Ray attended Northwest High School with the class of 1973. The oldest of seven brothers and sisters, he was large and in charge of them, and occasionally bossy in his role. He worked for various companies including Coca-Cola, Carter Trucking, and lastly as a dedicated truck driver for Fed Ex Freight where he devoted 19 years of service, deservingly retiring in 2017.
A hard-core Boston Red Sox fan, Ray was also a Minnesota Twins fan, but only by association with his brother. An avid reader, he enjoyed discussing politics (only if you agreed with him), watching crime shows, murder mysteries, and ghost hunting shows. A manly man, he could be found sitting on his porch watching the world go by while sipping bourbon and jamming out to the classic rock of the 70's. Charismatic, opinionated, and sarcastic, he was known for his dry sense of humor. A good friend to many, Ray liked family get togethers and will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his infant sister, Christina Evans, brother, Wayne Evans, and brother-in-law, Dallas Jackson.
He leaves behind his lifelong companion, Lisa Ann Zabst of Indianapolis; daughter, Misty Crull of Alexandria; grandchildren, Lela Crull of Monrovia, Christina Jackson of Waverly, Kenneth Jackson of Indianapolis, Michael Kizzee of Alexandria, and Logan Hood of New Palestine; great grandchildren, Liam McGinley of Monrovia, and Linnie Patrick of Waverly; siblings, Becky Vandiver (Roger) of Kokomo, John Evans of Amo, Lorinda Jackson of Kokomo, and Mike Evans (Gail) of Andover MN; along with his beloved dog, Riley.
Funeral and Cremation Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 1:00pm until a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 3:00pm. Pastor Max Downs will officiate, and cremation will follow services.
