Gloria Carolyn Callahan, 87, of Elkhorn passed away peacefully at her home on July 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 29, 1938, in Yuma, Kentucky, the eldest daughter of the late Merlin and Pauline Christie. She was united in marriage on December 8, 1956, to Jesse Ray Callahan who preceded her in death on February 7, 2005.
Gloria was a retired employee of Citizens Bank where many in the community knew her working as a teller. She attended Campbellsville Christian Church and was of the Christian faith.
Gloria was a woman of incredible strength, tenacity of spirit, and zest for life. She loved reading, cooking, gardening, and vacationing with Jesse in Florida each fall, where they enjoyed camping and fishing with family at the beach and many meals of freshly caught seafood. During her retirement years, she especially enjoyed her "Sister Trips", where she and her sisters Marilynn and Sandy travelled together to many exciting places.
Gloria's family was her pride and joy. Holiday gatherings were her most special times. She loved and was loved deeply by all that knew her. Her sweet presence will be truly missed.
She is survived by one son Phillip Callahan and wife Carolyn of Tallahassee, Florida; one daughter Carolyn Thomas and husband J.R. of Elkhorn; two sisters, Marilynn Christie Fusco of Harrisburg, PA and Sandy Christie Sartin of Tallahassee; two grandsons, Andrew Callahan of Tallahassee and Ben Callahan of Campbellsville; one granddaughter, Christa Thomas and fiancée Ben Thomas of Raywick; one great-granddaughter Celeste Callahan of Tallahassee; four nieces, Pam Brannon and husband Joe of Tallahassee, Rebecca Fusco of Harrisburg, Francine Neat and husband Don of Columbia, Connie Cox and husband Ricky of Elizabethtown; four nephews, David Poore and wife Eva Vermeulen of the Netherlands, John Fusco of San Francisco, Greg Redford and wife Nevis of Columbia, Terry Redford of Harrodsburg, KY; grandnieces Lauren Breza and husband Jon Meuse of Corvallis, Oregon, Maggie Breza and husband Andrew Butler of Tallahassee; grandnephews David Breza of Tallahassee and Luca Fusco of Harrisburg; special friend Yevonne Humphress of Yuma, KY; other grandnieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by an infant sister Diana Christie, son Michael Callahan, and daughter-in-law Brenda Callahan of Campbellsville.
Burial will be at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens following a private family grave side service with Fr. Joseph Holcomb officiating.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many compassionate folks at Taylor Regional Cancer Center, Green River Hosparus, and L.R. Petty Funeral Home for their extraordinary kindness, care, and support.
