On April 30, 2024, Gloria D. Schmager, 89, of Salisbury, Maryland, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Beloved daughter of the late Dr. Felix and Primitiva Dizon, devoted wife, dedicated mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, Gloria is survived by her children – Catherine Shriver, Jeanne Tebera, and Fred Schmager; sons-in-law - Doug Tebera and Doug Shriver; grandchildren – Kenny Tebera, Mason Tebera, Kristen Shriver, Will Schmager, Austin Tebera, Ryan Shriver, and Kathryn Olivia Beauchamp; sisters, Felicitas Dizon and Aurora D. Hand, brother, Bartolome Dizon, and extended family and dear friends both near and far. She was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, Norman Friedrich Schmager, brothers, Melanio Dizon, Felix Dizon, Jr., Cezar Dizon, and sisters, Honorata Kendle, and Adoracion D. Palma.
Gloria began her civil service career working with the Air Force, where she met the love of her life, Norman. They married in 1961, honeymooned in Lake Taal, Tagaytay, and moved to Japan where they traveled the islands before settling down to start a family. Gloria put her career on hold to raise their family, residing first in Japan, moving on to Hawaii, and finally Maryland. In 1977, Gloria resumed her career with the federal government and volunteered with the high school PTA, serving as president for several years. In 1997, Gloria joined Norman in retirement from their careers with the federal government, and they moved to Salisbury, Maryland. Gloria loved to garden, specializing in beefsteak and cherry tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers of all kinds. She also had a green thumb, growing Hawaiian white ginger, gardenias, and hibiscus in the yard, and then as houseplants in the cold Maryland winters. Gloria also loved spending time with their grandchildren and always looked forward to cooking meals for family gatherings.
Gloria constantly reminisced about her sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews. She always talked about how proud she was of their accomplishments and how fortunate she was to have her family. She will be remembered for her dedication and commitment to family and friends, her positive outlook, and prayerful spirit.
Friends may join the family on Saturday, June 1, 2024 for a visitation from 1-2 pm and a memorial service at 2pm at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made in Gloria's name to Coastal Hospice on their website:
