Gregory Hill Obituary

Gregory J.E. Hill, age 58 of Church Hill, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Gregory was born on October 20, 1966, in Kingsport, TN to J.E. and Berta Hill. On August 20, 1988, Gregory married his best friend and love of his life, Cheryl Godsey. Having shared almost 37 years of marriage and family life, she now holds their legacy close, honoring the life they built together.
Gregory and his family were members of Darthula Baptist Church, and he found solace studying God's word. Gregory loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He enjoyed working, helping others, and spending time outdoors. If there was ever a greatest fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, it was Gregory. He was a source of wisdom, strength, and unwavering encouragement to everyone he met. His love for Christ radiated in every room he entered, leaving a lasting imprint on every heart he inspired and guided.
Gregory was preceded death by his father. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl Hill; his mother, Berta Torbett; son, Hunter Peyton Hill; two daughters, Madison Hill, and Emma Hill; one granddaughter, Gabriella Hill-Martinez; brother, Marty Hill and wife, Susan; two sisters, Jackie Wilson, and Nicole Briggs and husband, Jimmy; nephews, Jeremy Wilson and Nolan Sisco; best friend, James Sisco and wife, Latasha; many bonus sons and daughters; his four-legged friend, Maxx; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hawkins County Humane Society, located at 5180 US-11W, Rogersville, TN 37857, 423-272-6538, www.hawkinscountyhumanesociety.org or the organization of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. A funeral service celebrating Gregory's life will be held at 1:00 pm with Pastors Layton Bentley, Scott Tipton, and Jeff Strong officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Peyton Hill, Marty Hill, Jeremy Wilson, Austyn Crouch, Dominic Liberto, Patrick Reynolds, James Sisco, and Nolan Sisco will serve as pallbearers. Albert Sanchez, Jimmy Briggs, Gavin Briggs, Vaughn McConnell, David Johns, and Chance Briggs will serve as honorary pallbearers.
